History

Bio-Circle Surface Technology GmbH is an international enterprise headquartered in Gütersloh, North Rhine-Westphalian. Founded as a kind of garage start-up by graduate engineers Ulrich and Manfred Berens in 1985, the company has since been standing for the development, production and sales of innovative chemical and biotechnological products in the field of surface technology.

Branch offices and production sites have been established in Europe (Linz in Austria, Rotkreuz in Switzerland) and other parts of the world.

A wide range of products is manufactured using state-of-the-art technologies and can be used in all sectors of the processing and manufacturing industry and trade.

Founded as a family business more than 30 years ago

In 1985, Ulrich und Manfred Berens, two graduate engineers, embarked on being self-employed with a little two-man business. The first CFC-free maintenance products, sold under the company name of CB Chemie und Biotechnologie GmbH, were tested in the local metalworking industry of Gütersloh and around and then applied with great success.

They followed their customers’ needs and wish for resource-saving yet efficient products and expanded their range with phosphate-free water-based cleaners and aids for the optimization of welding processes. These and other new products were then categorized in the segments of Cleaning, Welding, Protecting, Lubricating, Service, Ice-Free, and Cleaning Systems, and pooled under the brand name of bio-chem.

Continuous development - Thinking holistically, acting sustainably

Focussing on the development and production of efficient, resource-saving and eco-compatible products, the company has quickly and continuously evolved into a flourishing medium-sized enterprise in Germany. Various new developments (parts cleaning systems for manual and mechanical cleaning that work with circulation systems in order to save resources, or low-temperature products used to enhance energy efficiency) have earned multiple awards and have established themselves successfully in the market.

In the meantime, more than 160 highly motivated staff work at the company headquarters in Gütersloh/Germany. In cooperation with the international branch offices and production sites they make sure that distribution runs smoothly worldwide in a network that is continuously expanding. The aim is to offer customers high quality “Made in Germany”, consistent with economic, ecological, social, and societal concerns.

Being present at national and international trade fairs and exhibitions facilitates fast, innovative reactions to ideas and markets, guaranteeing synergic effects and economic efficiency.

State-of-theart cleaning systems

We are working on future-oriented projects and tasks in the fields of “environmental protection”, “biotechnology” and “surface chemistry” with an in-house R&D department and in cooperation with the University of Bielefeld. The points of departure for these scientific works and developments are the customers’ concerns and the issues of tomorrow’s market. So, over the past few years we have been focussing on the development of alternative cleaning agents, with VOC (volatile organic compounds = solvents) reduction being our medium- and long-term objective.
